Leadership Challenge

We live in increasingly complex times with significant economic and environmental challenges developing on a global scale. Engaged, skilled leaders who can navigate those challenges are ever more essential to spearhead innovation and find new solutions. At the same time, even our best schools only make small gestures towards instilling leadership values and skills in their students. Educators at the high school and college levels note an increasing self-focus in young people, and, consequently, personal responsibility and accountability are widely seen to be in decline.

The Ocean School endeavors to address this looming challenge head-on by actively preparing its students for leadership through a combination of 21st century academic approaches and guided wilderness expeditions. By fully integrating leadership instruction throughout both the academic and extracurricular programs, the skills, traits, and modes of thought that define successful leaders will become second nature to Ocean School students.
